Held in Anaheim every January, The NAMM Show offers the latest products from more than 7,000 brands, cutting edge industry education across hundreds of sessions, as well as special events, concerts and experiences. UCan Play will be taking a closer look at various emerging products in the near future, for now we will take a brief glimpse at just a few selected highlights from NAMM 2018. Nord introduce the new Nord Electro 6D semi-weighted waterfall keyboard in 61 and 73 note varieties and 73 note hammer action portable Electro 6HP. Building on Nord’s reputation for design and quality the new models feature a wealth of new features and improvements, including seamless patch transitions, a new streamlined program management section, and enhancements to the piano, synth, organ and effects sections.
TEC Awards Sponsors Roland, BOSS, and V-MODA released a number of new exciting products including the GP609 Digital Piano, a stylish and sophisticated grand piano. We’ve already mentioned the R-07 digital recorder, tuner and metronome, which we look forward to taking a closer look at in the spring. Long anticipated faithful emulations of the classic TR-808 and TR-909 drum machines will be available via Roland Cloud along with SRX Orchestra – the first virtualisation of Roland’s famed SRX Expansion Library.
Roland are also expanding on the sonic potential for acoustic drummers interested in a hybrid setups with two new products. The standalone RT-MicS is a combined drum mic and trigger, with the ability to layer sounds with a great deal of flexibility. The new TM-6 PRO trigger module, preloaded with 500 new sampled sounds from electronic and processed tones to acoustic drum sounds and sound elements is designed to complement an acoustic kit. It also includes a user sample feature that lets you import any sounds you wish to use. LEDs flash in response to each head/rim of the 6-independent triggers. Very reassuring visual feedback in a live performance setting!
Boss unveiled a very exciting new flagship GT-1000 effects processor, debuting the new AIRD (Augmented Impulse Response Dynamics) technology. Amps and effects can be routed in numerous series and parallel permutations, and it features Bluetooth for wireless editing from iOS and Android mobile devices. It also incorporates the algorithms of Boss premium DD-500 (Delay), MD-500 (Modulation), and RV-500 (Reverb) effect pedals.
Korg have delighted synth enthusiasts with their new flagship analogue Prologue synth – demos are proving very popular and generating some very positive feedback! Building on the success of their very popular minilogue and monologue synths, the Prologue offers unparalleled customisation, including a user oscillator section which lets you load oscillator programs of your own creation (sixteen slots are provided), and an SDK allowing developers to program, customise and extend the capabilities of the multi-engine and digital effects is expected in the spring.
Korg have also extended their Volca series Volca Mix, 4+2 channel mixer that lets you construct a live setup combining multiple volca units. An integrative solution, in addition to the sync function found on all Volcas, the mix also provides DC output connectors that can supply power for up to three volca units.
