Music education can be noisy! For many teachers, finding a way to reduce the sound of music making in their classroom is a real challenge.
To tackle some of these problems, we have designed a silent rehearsal built around a small digital mixer and headphone amplifier built by our friends at PreSonus.
We offer a try before you buy programme , so please get in touch if you’d like to try this solution in person before making any purchasing decisions!
Easy to use!
Our silent rehearsal solution introduces students to a small digital mixer and headphone amplifier. The mixer contains pre-amps so that electric and bass guitars can be connected with no DI boxes. There is also an XLR input for a vocal microphone, and channels for digital drums and keyboards. The mixer and headphone amplifier provide a stereo mix for each pair of headphones connected. Up to five students can work together using this system.
Common inputs
Our silent rehearsal system has nputs for all the common leads you may already have: 1/4inch jack cables for instruments, XLR’s for mics, and a 3.5mm headphone jack for plugging in portable devices if you’d like to play music through the system for students to work with. There is also no need for amps or DI boxes, as all impedance management is taken care of inside the mixer.
This variety of inputs makes the system extremely flexible when it comes to instrument line up. You could have a typical band layout (drums, bass, guitar, keys, and vocals) or a keyboard quartet, or a guitar ensemble, it’s all possible..!
Fast assessment
One of the best features of the silent rehearsal system as a classroom tool is its straight to SD card recording. By plugging in an SD card into the mixer, you can immediately record your students performances. Evidence for assessment becomes very quick and easy!
Peer assessment is also easy. By plugging in the system into a speaker you can have the group perform to the class (you could also be recording onto your SD card at the same time .. !)
Alongside all of this – you can also use the mixer as an interface for your DAW, so multitracking with your music technology classes becomes a breeze.
Links to Music Production
Our silent rehearsal system does what it says on the tin! However, it also introduces students to key elements of music production – notably a digital mixer and headphone amplifier. Alongside its standard layout, the mixer contains a range of digital effects that can be applied to each channel if required. By using this system, students will build their music production skills alongside their music performance ones!
Our silent rehearsal system is a fantastic solution to some of the real challenges that schools face in providing an appropriate environment for musical activity in the their classrooms. We can provide further information and free trials of equipment to any schools that are interested in finding out more.
