UCan Play is committed to helping develop the use of inclusive instruments in music education. Our principal partnership in this area is with TiME, a global alliance of music industry organisations, educators and practitioners in the UK dedicated to supporting the purposeful and creative use of music technology in education.

In collaboration with TiME, we will be highlighting key inclusive and adaptive instruments that can be used to improve access to all areas of music teaching, learning, composition and performance for all young people

It was pleasing to note that the second iteration of the National Plan for Music Education is encouraging all music education hubs and schools to expand their work on inclusion and adaptive instruments. Inclusive and adaptive instruments should be celebrated as much as other types of instrument, and teachers should be supportive of music-making using these instruments (many of which may be less familiar to them). Music Hubs will be required to support schools in identifying the best instruments for their pupils and sourcing them at an affordable cost, working with partners across the country.

This is where UCan Play comes in! We will be creating a collection of inclusive and adaptive instruments within the UCan Play shop. This will provide key information for those in music education hubs and schools who are making decisions about the procurement of inclusive and adaptive musical instruments. It will also provide a point of sale with preferential pricing inline with our ‘not for profit’ status as a limited company.

Further details will follow once we have put the final pieces in place with our industrial partners.
