Building on the previous unit, Clive discusses the benefits of doing things online with others. Whether it be a musical performance or rehearsal online, or developing ideas for a teaching session, working with others creates a structure and set of responsibilities for us that maintains our interest, helps us meet our deadlines and builds our skills.

Working with others is a key component of being an effective musicians. Just as with the practice strategies that we discussed in the previous unit, thinking about how we work with others in a face-to-face environment will help us think about the new structures of working with others online.

Watch the following video and notice what Clive has to say about the important of creating structures for our work with others and the importance of deadlines:

Clive’s argument is that through agreeing structures with other musicians online, we can be held to account in a positive way that empowers us, motivates us and allows us to meet our own internal deadlines. In learning to move our work into an online environment, these links to others can provide a vital strand in helping us remain positive and keep active. Don’t do things on your own. Doing things with others is always a better choice! In the next unit, we will consider how we can build an affinity with others online, even those with whom we have not met physically before.
