John Twell’s article in Fact is a great read for any synth lover. His identification of 14 synths that shaped modern music is a blast through recent musical history with links to video of key tracks featuring the various synths he identifies as being central to the development of popular music.

Amongst them are some famous synths from various manufacturers, including the Korg MI, Yamaha DX7 and the Fairlight CMI. But no company is represented more than Roland, with Twell’s identifying the TB-303, SH-101 and the Alpha Juno and seminal pieces of technology.
