Do you remember the Rubik’s cube? If you do, like us you might have been teenagers during the early 1980s. Our MD remembers walking to school trying to solve the cube and then, having been taught how to solve it by his friend Nicholas, engaging in competitions with him to see who could solve it quickest. Neither of them ever managed 7.36 secs this world champion!

The Rubik’s cube was an icon of the 1980s, as was Roland’s TR-808. So, imagine our joy (and surprise) to find that Ray McClure has bought these two items together in a great app that you can play online.

As you’ll see, each face of the cube is a sample from the legendary 808 and you can spin the faces round, triggering new sounds and even drop in audio samples to personalise things further. Tap features, variations and so much more. Great work Ray! We love it.

If you’re a music teacher, why not introduce your students to the 808 Cube. We reckon they will love it almost as much as the original puzzle.

But be warned, it could be seriously addictive (both for you and for them).
