Code Studio is a superb and completely free set of games and activities to teach children about computer coding. Produced for the American education market by a not for profit company (like ourselves), but highly relevant to our children here too, there are complete sets of online games and activities for all Key Stages. Younger children will love simple activities like getting Elsa (the princess from Frozen in case you were wondering?) to create patterns in the ice, whilst older children will learn about the application of geometry and algebra within computer gaming!

What’s even better is that the team behind Code Studio have really made your job as a teacher easy too! There is a short guide on how to run the introductory ‘Hour of Code’ session (their preferred starting point for the resource). Follow this, there are different programmes for each Key Stage that you can follow with your students progressively or dip in and out of as you wish. The team have also produced a ‘dashboard’ to help you keep track of your pupils’ progress:

It is hard to imagine a more complete introduction to coding than what is provided here. What’s more, it is done in a fun and engaging way that children will love. The resources here have proved highly popular in our homes as well as in schools that we have worked with in our local area. Why not give them a try?
