How do you find out about new music? This interesting article from Guardian Technology supplement identifies five key ways:

  1. From your friends
  2. From the crowd
  3. From curators
  4. From algorithms
  5. From serendipity (not sure about this last one as we’re not really sure that ‘you’ could say you found music via this route if it is truly serendipitous – but we’re probably over-thinking that a bit!)

However you find new music, modern technologies such as the smartphone have a central part to play. Finding out what you don’t know is an old conundrum; but technology can help you discover new sounds, beats, songs or whatever you are interested in and diversify your musical interests in helpful ways.
